All forms of acne are collections of dirt, oil and bacteria that get trapped in enlarged pores or hair follicles and which are not allowed to escape through regular rinsing or washing of the face because the skin forms a small barrier over these. Everyone has dirt and oil on their face, but not everyone gets acne and certainly most don't have severe cystic acne. The problem with acne is not just that collection of dirt and oil but that barrier of skin cells as well, which shouldn't form this way over that opening. When that barrier forms that collection grows into a small bump that we call a pimple.
A lot of people find that its better to keep a diary. I would recommend making a diary and creating hypotheses (ideas) and test them out and once they are logged in your diary then you will be able to tell if it is a food that your eating or what ever it may be.
There are literally so many acne treatments out there that it is difficult to know where to begin. Many are available over the counter whilst others are available via prescription only. It is fair to say that those falling into the latter category of acne treatments are by far the strongest and need careful control as a result of the ingredients. However, whether the acne treatments are prescribed or chosen, they all have potential side effects. You are best informed of these before you begin using any of the products on your skin.
